This hospital is a master piece of modernism architecture. It was completed in 1930 and one of the leading medical research centers of the world. You really see and feel the influence of Gaudi, realised by architect Montaner.
The individual buildings are amazing pieces of art. Every roof, wall and dome has a multitude of decorations. The facilities were connected with each other via underground tunnels so that medical staff could move quickly from one building to another. This building layout is still being used in today's hospitals.
To us, this is one of the best architectural treasures you can visit in Barcelona.
Dit hospitaal is een meesterwerk van de modernisme architectuur. Het werd voltooid in 1930 en was één van de meest vooruitstrevende medisch onderzoek centra ter wereld. Je kan de invloed van Gaudi voelen, gerealiseerd door de architect Montaner.
De individuele gebouwen zijn allen kunstwerken. Ieder dak, muur en koepel beval vele versieringen. De faciliteiten en gebouwen werden ondergronds met elkaar verbonden zodat het medisch personeel zich sneller konden verplaatsen. Deze lay-out wordt nog steeds gebruikt in grote hedendaagse ziekenhuizen.
Voor ons, is dit één van de belangrijkste en mooiste gebouwen die je kan bezoeken in Barcelona.
