Some of my best dining memories are relaxed, lingering brunches with friends on a slow Sunday morning, perhaps after a late night of fun, where the coffee flows and the Sunday edition newspaper is passed around in between conversations about the night before, the week ahead, and news from around the world.  Time is suspended, as nobody has any place to be except in the moment.

Of course, that was before any of us had families.

Marble 8, the fine-dining steakhouse restaurant on the edge of KLCC Park, known for its Australian Angus and Wagyu steaks, is offering a chance to re-capture the simple pleasure of brunch -- as a family.

The Great Sunday Meat-Up is an event for adults and children held every Sunday from 11:00am – 3:00pm, where parents and non-parents can enjoy a leisurely brunch with quality food and alcohol, while the children are entertained through free play and outdoor activities, with a stunning view of Petronas Towers for all.

With affordable prices at RM128++ per person or RM168++ per person with free flow Carlsberg beer, red and white wine (we were served Australia’s Pearly Bay Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz and Chenin Blanc/Chardonnay) and San Feletto extra dry Prosecco, and RM78++ below 12 or free for below 10 children, this may be the best brunch deal in town.

Settling into the dimly lit dining room, you can slowly wake up with a coffee of your choice, and contemplate the generous salad and artisan bread buffet or egg station. The homemade tapenades of capsicum, sundried tomatoes and kalamata olives are delicious, as is the egg of choice, which can be served with beef salami, onions, mushrooms and cheese, if desired. These buffets are available throughout the meal for self-serve, as opposed to the appetizers, pasta & pizza, main courses, and side dishes, which are served at the table.

If you have little ones, your children, after admiring the dessert buffet with a large cotton candy machine that spins giant balls of brightly colored sugar-fluff (five different flavors to chose from!) onto a dinner plate, can head outside to the spacious garden, where a bouncy castle is ready for action and artsy, crafty activities to come.

Table Service

Appetizers began with a modest yet satisfying cream of parsnip soup.  Next came servings of comfort food fit for children and adults, of creamy pasta bowties, small squares of Margarita pizza, and baked eggplant parmagiana. I found the eggplant to be particularly tasty, but imagined my children would gobble each dish up with gusto.

The sampling of roasts arrived next, with a portion of slow-roasted Wagyu beef rib, leg of lamb, and chicken with herbs. While all the meats were good quality, the roasted chicken was especially savory, which was surprising for a steakhouse.  The meats were served with three sauces:  beef jus with red wine reduction, béarnaise, and mushroom ragout, which enhanced the beef rib and lamb.  The “catch of the day” was a slice of poached salmon, prepared perfectly.  Portion sizes were small, but the maître d' assured us that patrons could order and enjoy second servings, as they desired, Chef to Table Buffet style.

Side dishes included Yorkshire pudding, pilaf rice, roasted potatoes, and sautéed vegetables – all of good quality and fresh ingredients.

Because you don’t have to be a child to love sweets, I happily saved room for the dessert buffet, and thoroughly enjoyed the passion fruit and coconut truffle, and the chocolate pralines, all prepared in-house.  The panna cotta was also delightful, and the chocolate mousse rich and satisfying.  To clear your palette, finish with seasonal fruit bites.

Marble 8’s Sunday Roast is a great way to start off a family (or non-family) Sunday.  Just be forewarned:  nap not included.

Reservations are recommended.  If you come with smaller children, you may want to ask for a table near the window, where you can watch your kids frolic.  Sun and play safety is monitored by staff outdoors, where spray fans will keep your children cool and refreshed, even if the day is hot and sunny.

Reasons to visit:  Family-friendly atmosphere, KLCC views, relaxed vibe, roast meats, cotton candy.
